TALINOR® post-emergent herbicide shattering the defences of tough weeds in wheat and barley

Wild radish weed in a wheat field

When it comes to in-crop broadleaf weed control, there are often favourites that have been used time, and time again, which is a recipe for resistance.

TALINOR® is a powerful alternative, combining two active ingredients: bicyclopyrone (Group 27) and bromoxynil (Group 6). This unique pairing offers a synergistic effect, providing enhanced weed control, while rotating away from commonly used Group 2, 4 and 12 herbicides.

Broad-Spectrum Control

A standout feature of TALINOR® is its ability to control a wide range of broadleaf weeds. TALINOR® is registered for the control of 39 weeds and suppression of three more, with excellent efficacy on other key weeds listed as suppression.

The key weeds agronomists recommend TALINOR® on include:

  1. Brassicaceae weeds (wild radish, mustard, Indian hedge mustard)
  2. Capeweed
  3. Fumitory
  4. Spiny emex/Double gee
  5. Various volunteer pulses

Break the defences of tough weeds

“TALINOR® excels at controlling hard-to-kill broadleaf weeds that often challenge other herbicides,” said Ashley Pilkington, Syngenta Technical Services Lead.

“This makes it an excellent choice for mixed weed populations, as it can effectively target problematic species while simultaneously controlling more common broadleaf weeds.”

Regional Efficacy

In the Southern Australian wheat belt, TALINOR® has demonstrated excellent results controlling:

Fumitory: Achieving over 90% control across five species when applied at the correct stage and rate.

  1. Spinyemex/Doublegee: Demonstrating performance equal to or better than current market standards.
  2. Bifora (South Australia and Victoria): Outperforming many competitive products in trials.

Resistance management tool

“As a combination of Group 27 and 6 modes of action, TALINOR® offers growers a valuable rotational tool for managing herbicide resistance,” Ashley said.

“This is particularly important in areas where Group 2, 4 and 12 herbicides have been heavily used, as TALINOR® provides an effective alternative to these chemistries.

“Group 2 resistant Indian hedge mustard and wild turnip is a real issue throughout the Mallee, where TALINOR® has found an excellent fit.”

Application Considerations

While TALINOR® offers impressive efficacy, its performance is optimised when applied:

  1. At the correct crop and weed growth stage
  2. Using the appropriate application rate and adjuvant
  3. Under suitable environmental conditions

Summary

TALINOR® represents a significant advancement in broadleaf weed control for wheat and barley growers. Its unique formulation, broad-spectrum activity, and ability to control challenging weeds make it a valuable addition to integrated weed management programs. As with any herbicide, growers and agronomists should consult the product label and local Syngenta representatives for specific application guidelines and best practices to maximise its effectiveness in their cropping systems.
