Syngenta congratulates 2014 AUSVEG Grower of the Year Belinda Adams

Syngenta congratulates Coastal Hydroponics’ Belinda Adams on being named the Syngenta Grower of the Year at the 2014 AUSVEG National Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner at the Cairns Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Belinda was recognised for her significant contribution to the management and growth of the family-owned and operated hydroponic vegetable farming business, based on the Queensland Gold Coast, which is now one of Australia’s most successful growing businesses and has achieved certification through the EnviroVeg Platinum scheme. 

Syngenta Head of Vegetables – Australasia Craig Thompson, who presented the Grower of the Year Award alongside Senator the Hon Richard Colbeck, said he was delighted Belinda’s contribution to the industry has been recognised through the Syngenta Grower of the Year Award.

“Belinda’s work is a shining example of how innovative growing techniques can unlock new opportunities and deliver real value to agribusinesses,” said Craig Thompson.

“Coupled with her passionate involvement in supporting and developing the vegetable industry, Belinda is truly deserving of this accolade.”

The Syngenta Grower of the Year Award recognises outstanding achievements across all aspects of horticultural production, including growing, quality of produce, environmental management and staff management.

Since joining Coastal Hydroponics, Belinda has been instrumental in increasing the size of the company’s hydroponic infrastructure to meet growing demand for its salad products and leafy greens.  She is also heavily involved in running the business, with responsibility for all production, raw materials sourcing, product development, staff, customer liaisons, sales and marketing activities.

Belinda was also in singled out for contribution to the horticulture community.  She sits on the vegetable industry’s Design Teams and the EnviroVeg Committee, playing a key role in developing the EnviroVeg Platinum scheme.  

The Syngenta Grower of the Year Awards was the final accolade presented at the 2014 AUSVEG National Awards for Excellence, which honours growers and other members of the Australian vegetable and potatoes industries for outstanding contributions and achievements in their respective fields.
