New fungicides demonstrate fit for viticulture production
Fungicide evaluations are a vital part of how Syngenta brings new products to market, enabling grape growers and advisors to make assessments with relevance to their own vines.
The Syngenta Learning Centre for viticulture helped facilitate enthusiastic discussion about the features and benefits of three new fungicide innovations in March, when disease has its biggest impact on a vintage leading into harvest.
Demonstrating absolute confidence in its pipeline fungicides, Syngenta devised spray programs to showcase the efficacy SEEKER® Duo fungicide for powdery mildew and KEYBRI® Ultra fungicide for downy mildew, as well as the newly unveiled TAEGRO® biological fungicide for mid-to-late season powdery mildew and botrytis.
“The Syngenta Learning Centre is timed for when disease pressure comes in to give attendees the best possible experience visiting the site," explained local Territory Sales Representative Peter Jolly, of the Adelaide Hills site.
"Being a high-pressure season in most areas, this trial site incorporated best-in-class fungicides and we were able to find powdery and downy mildew to make meaningful assessments between treatments."
Fitting neatly into Syngenta’s existing fungicide program, SEEKER® Duo fungicide should be applied early in the season to provide up to 21 days protection to stop powdery mildew development in the vineyard. With excellent xylem mobility, it protects the developing shoots at a time when they are susceptible to powdery mildew.
With flowering a critical developmental stage for the crop, KEYBRI® Ultra offers two downy mildew specific active ingredients, with local systemic and translaminar activity, delivering a best-in-class fungicide to the industry.
Of great interest to visitors, TAEGRO® fungicide was officially unveiled at the Syngenta Learning Centre. A new biological fungicide, TAEGRO® provides control of powdery mildew and botrytis right up to harvest. Having a very stable formulation, TAEGRO® fungicide will have an excellent fit in grape growing regions around Australia.
All treatments were showcased against a range of known industry standards so a true understanding of each product could be achieved.
Rounding out a highly passionate and knowledgeable Syngenta team in viticulture were Territory Sales Managers from key grape regions across Australia, Technical Services Leads Brandy Rawnsley and Len Ibbotson, Southern Horticulture Manager Nick Hall, and Syngenta Portfolio Lead Scott Mathew.
Mr. Mathew said TAEGRO® fungicide would be a welcome addition to many vineyards, whether they were dedicated to organic production or conventionally managed.
“Having products that are able to be used in all types of winery scenarios makes life easy both for the agronomist and advisor but also the vineyard manager,” he said.
“Like THIOVIT Jet®, which has decades of solid performance behind it, TAEGRO® is proving to be just as impressive, offering both conventional and organic wineries a real solution to disease management.
“Despite it being harvest time for many, thank you everyone who could make it to the Syngenta Learning Centre in viticulture.”
