Nigel is a young farmer from Goondiwindi, and is nominated in the Productivity category for his passion for R & D and scientific advances in the agricultural industry. Nigel continually looks to outperform in these areas along with technological advances that help him enhance production on his farms.

Nigel is involved in the family business which consists of four mixed farming properties on the NSW-QLD border, with irrigated cotton the main production crop (about 4,000 ha grown annually). They also grow around 4,000 ha of dryland cultivated crops, including wheat, chickpeas and sorghum, as well as operating a lamb feedlot and running 130 head of Angus breeder cows.

Nigel is a high achiever, and has been making waves in the industry. In 2012, he was awarded Monsanto’s Farmer of the Year Award which led to taking out the top gong in 2013, the national Australian Young Farmer of the Year Award. In 2014, Nigel was awarded a Nuffield Scholarship and used this to study how to improve both Fertiliser Use Efficiency (FUE) and Nitrogen Uptake Efficiency (NUE) on both his own farm and across the industry. He is also an Executive Committee Member of the BRFF, Border Rivers Food and Fibre, a General Committee Member of Cotton Australia, Committee Member of the 2014 Cotton Conference and most recently appointed a Board Member of CSD.
