Technical farm consultant, Geoff Fosbery, covers an extensive area in central Western Australia for the consultancy group ConsultAg and has over 30 years’ experience in the agricultural industry. Geoff has been nominated in the Productivity category for his lifetime work of bringing research findings back on farm to improve productivity.
Geoff is arguably the most widely known and well respected agronomist in WA with a deep knowledge and understanding of what drives a farm business. He is passionate about providing technical, financial and business planning advice to farmers in a practical and comprehensive way to maximise returns on-farm in a cost effective and sustainable manner.
Geoff has extensive experience in the agricultural industry and in 2011 was awarded, by the GRDC, the prestigious western region “Seed of Light Award” in recognition of going “above and beyond” in his agricultural research endeavours.
In 1997, a group of farmers from Kellerberrin and Geoff got together and formed the Kellerberrin Demonstration Group. This group has been heavily involved in on-farm research involving crop row spacing’s, plant available water studies, yield prophet development, development of new products, frost research, canopy management research and extension, all to increase business sustainability.
On par with Geoff’s technical knowledge and research capabilities is his charismatic and engaging manner with growers which is showcased in the 12 Field Days he holds across the state prior to every season. Up to 60 farmers attend a session, both in paddock and the local hall, where considerable animated and searching discussion takes place .The interest and respect shown by the audience is an indication of the high regard in which they hold Geoff Fosbery both as an agronomist and also as a member of the Agricultural industry.
